Breast cancer
Prevention saves lives
Almost 131,900 women died of breast cancer in Europe in 2006. This is why medical check-ups are important, because early diagnosis improves the success rate of therapy and can save lives. In about one-in-five breast-cancer patients, metastases appear in the bones. Once cancer cells have settled there, the bone substance deteriorates. The consequences are not only severe pain in the bones, but also the disintegration or degeneration of the bone tissue (osteolysis). Furthermore, a dangerous surplus of calcium (hypercalcemia) can occur in the blood.
Studies offer new hope
Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals offers a product that helps reduce some of the symptoms that accompany cancer diseases, such as osteolysis and hypercalcemia. This drug has been helping patients for over two decades. New studies suggest that it can also delay the formation of metastases and thus prolong the patient's life.
Advice for patients
Every body reacts differently to medicines. Therefore it is impossible to tell which medicine works best for you. Please consult your physician.
