Long experience in research for future innovations

Building on more than 80 years of experience in the area of hormone research, the research activities of Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals in the Women's healthcare field, today, concentrate on hormonal contraception, menopausal complaints and gynecological diseases. Their focus are the further development of the active ingredients drospirenone and estradiol as well as new application methods for, for example, contraceptives.

Due to its early basic research, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals has played a major role in the explication of the hormonal regulation of the female reproductive function. Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals also participated in the discovery and structural analysis of sex hormones. Already in 1928, Progynon was offered as the first estrogen preparation for the treatment of climacteric disorders. Proluton, the first preparation containing progestin for the prevention of miscarriages, was launched in 1933. Anovlar, the first oral contraceptive, was brought to the market by the former Schering AG. Since then, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals has improved women's healthcare with innovative gynecological products.

As a research-based pharmaceutical company, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals will continue to utilize its knowledge and experience to offer even better options for contraception and individualized therapies for menopausal complaints. In addition, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals focuses on therapies for gynecological disorders that, yet, cannot be treated sufficiently.
