Oncological diseases
Combining passion with purpose
The vision of the oncology research at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals is to improve the lives of those affected by cancer. Wtih both our own research and development efforts as well as cooperations we work on the worldwide allocation of treatment options across the globe.
Different targets for various cancers
Our pipeline offers therapies for both solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. The term solid tumor is used to describe all cancer types affecting body tissue with the exception of the blood, bone marrow and lymphatic system. They include such frequent types as prostrate cancer in men or breast cancer in women as well as kidney, liver, lung or panreatic cancer.
One of the key points of departure in Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals oncology research is locating suitable target structures in the development of a tumor from which innovative therapeutic strategies can be derived. Results of this research have included so-called kinase inhibitors and antiangiogenic active substances, which prevent the tumor from supplying itself with nutrients.
In the long term, the treatment of cancer will develop into an more individualized therapy. Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals is therefore also exploring the possibility of determining in advance which active substances will work best for which patient to ensure that the therapy is as effective as possible. In this context the researchers constantly have one main objective in mind: one day they would like to give hope to patients and take away the fear that is still often felt today when a person is diagnosed as having cancer.
