World Contraception Day

More than a quarter of girls and women aged between 15 and 24 do not use contraceptives the "first time". Many of them lack an awareness of the fact that this can have far-reaching consequences and lead to personal and social crises.

Unintended pregnancies and the resultant number of abortions are often caused by a lack – or the incorrect use – of contraceptives. Young people should be educated about contraceptives and be able to make a conscious decision on when they want to become parents.

World Contraception Day (September 26) is an international initiative aimed at improving awareness and knowledge of contraception and reproductive health. Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, world leader in the field of hormonal contraceptives, is involved in staging World Contraception Day.

Activities all over the globe

World Contraception Day is celebrated in about 70 countries worldwide. with many activities taking place around the globe every year. Various actions draw attention to the responsible use of reliable contraceptive methods. These include sex-education events in schools and universities, quizzes on the Internet, radio talk shows, book publications, T-shirt-designing competitions, benefit events and activities in discotheques. One element of the campaign is the global website www.your-life.com, which offers information on contraception and sexuality.
