Sex education program for teenagers in Uganda

"Reproductive health" – the action program of the 1994 UN World Population Conference uses this rather unwieldy term to describe an important objective: that all people should be able to have a safe sex life. Women should only become pregnant if they want to. Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals informs people about family-planning methods and makes it easier for them to access contraceptives – above all in poor countries.

Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals collaborates with various non-governmental organizations to offer sex-education programs that take people's age, gender and differing cultural sensitivities into account. One example is the 'Youth2Youth' project run by the German Foundation for World Population (DSW). Together with the DSW, we have launched a unique educational program for young teenagers under the age of 15 in Uganda. The aim of 'Youth2Youth' is to encourage responsible behavior in the target group. The underlying idea is that the information that young people receive comes from their peers, is adapted to local conditions, and is supported by a 'Youth Bus'.
