Patient information
In this Internet age, the supply of information, and demand for it, are areas undergoing rapid development. Yet the provision of information and access to it are handled restrictively in the European pharmaceutical sector: pharma companies are largely forbidden from holding a dialog with interested patients on prescription drugs by the European Union's Advertising Directive and the German Therapeutic Products Act ("Heilmittelgesetz").
Research-based pharmaceutical companies and patients share a common interest in improving information transfer. The Bayer Group is in favor of a liberalization of the corresponding regulations. Pharmaceutical manufacturers should have an opportunity on request to provide factual and balanced information on the medicines they produce. On the other hand, we believe the ban on public advertising should be maintained.
