Assistance for hemophilia patients

The annual World Hemophilia Day was launched by the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) to make the population more aware of the needs of hemophiliacs. To mark World Hemophilia Day in April 2008, we donated €250,000 to the WFH and more than 950,000 international units of a drug containing the recombinant blood-clotting factor VIII. In this way, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals reaffirmed its commitment to the hemophilia community. We have donated over a million euros to the WFH over the last four years.

Every year, our donations fund treatment, nursing and training initiatives run by the WFH. For example, we are the sole sponsor of the International Nursing Fellowship Program, a training program for nurses treating hemophilia in developing countries. The Global Alliance for Progress initiative, which aims to improve the possibilities of diagnosing and treating hemophilia and other blood-clotting disorders in developing countries, is also promoted by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals. We also support global research and training in the field of hemophilia via the Bayer Hemophilia Awards Program. Since 2002, more than 130 prizes worth over US-$15 million have been awarded to researchers and caregivers all over the world. Healthcare for hemophilia patients and their quality of life has improved greatly in recent decades.
